Living in Suwanee GA | Suwanee Town Center VLOG TOUR | Living in Atlanta Suburbs
Hello and welcome. I’m Tim Trevathan with Tim Trevathan Homes and Keller Williams Realty. Suwanee is a popular north metro suburb, and today we are going to talk about the heart of Suwanee: The Suwanee Town Center. Living in Suwanee GA and living in the Atlanta suburbs is a fantastic place, so stay tuned until the end!
Suwanee began as a Native American village, located about 3 miles southwest of the current downtown and Town Center areas. The land was ceded to the federal government in the early 1800’s and Suwanee was officially recognized as town when a post office was built in 1838.
For decades, Suwanee’s prosperity was tightly tied to the railroad. It was what was known as a changing station; passengers would journey to Suwanee on a small railway from Lawrenceville and then change to the Southern Railroad line to travel down to Atlanta.
Until the 1970’s when I-85 was constructed and brought with it commercial and residential development, Suwanee was a small rural town with an agriculture-heavy economy.
As Suwanee grew in the early 2000’s, the city began to focus on preserving green space, bringing the community together, and creating a live-work-play environment. In 2004, the Town Center Park was opened followed by the first Suwanee Town Center business in 2006. In 2007, the first residences and restaurants in the Town Center opened. It has been thriving ever since!
Just down the road and on the other side of Buford Highway from Suwanee’s small historic downtown, the Suwanee Town Center is an entirely planned community. This sets it apart from Suwanee’s neighboring cities who focused their live-work-play efforts on their historic downtowns.
What will you see when you visit Suwanee Town Center? I’m glad you asked! Let’s take a walk.
We’ll start off on the Buford Highway end of the Town Center. First, you’ll find Ippolito’s. Describing themselves as a neighborhood Italian restaurant, Ippolito’s is almost like sports bar meets Italian, with its Italian-inspired menu and ample TV’s so you don’t miss a minute of the big game.
Next, is Pulse Nail Bar. If you’re looking for a manicure or pedicure, check out Pulse Nail Bar and enjoy complimentary coffee or wine while you relax and have your nails done.
Next door is the Brown Bag Deli & Café. Their goal is “to make the best tasting sandwiches in Suwanee”. You can grab & go, or enjoy your meal in their small dining area.
If you are looking to refresh your wardrobe with the season’s latest on-trend looks, take a moment to stop and browse in fab’rik, a multi-location boutique with a Town Center location.
If you have kids (and if you don’t), you will want to be sure to stop by Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard. The perfect choice on a hot summer day, choose between classic Italian ice or creamy custard….or combine the two and order a gelati! Its important to note that Rita’s is a seasonal business and is usually closed from November to late February.
Next door to Rita’s is the Ensemble Boutique. Locally owned and operated, stop in when you are looking for something unique to add to your wardrobe.
Another restaurant anchors the other corner of this section of Suwanee Town Center businesses. Tequila Mama Taqueria. Consistently getting rave reviews for its food, Tequila Mama brings flavors from around the world to Suwanee in the form of a taco.
Moving on, around the corner is Panache Consignment Boutique. The third boutique we’ve found in the Suwanee Town Center, Panache is unique because it is the only consignment boutique. You can stop in and look for that perfect piece, or clean out your closet and bring your items to consign.
Next, there is a dental office, Jennifer L. McCoy Cosmetic and Family Dentistry followed by Deka Lash Salon, a beauty salon that specializes in eyelash extensions.
At the end of this block, you’ll find the Suwanee Welcome Center and Suwanee Arts Center. The Welcome Center provides visitors with maps and information about Suwanee. It is also the home of the Suwanee Arts Center. This non-profit exists to promote the arts in Suwanee. Classes in various mediums are available for beginners all the way to advanced artists throughout the year. In addition, visitors to the Welcome Center can browse the artwork on display with the latest exhibit and even purchase a piece if you spy one you just have to have.
Moving on to the center of the Suwanee Town Center, you’ll see the Suwanee City Hall. This impressive building anchors the Suwanee Town Center and sits right in between the two commercial sections of the Town Center. Outside of the City Hall, you’ll see part of the Suwanee Sculpt Tour. This is a rotating temporary outdoor art exhibit. Since its inception in 2011, over 100 sculptures have been displayed in the Town Center and downtown areas. Mr. Eggwards, a bronze Humpty Dumpty statue created by Kimber Fiebiger happily seated on a wall (of course!) and Friends, a bronze statue of 3 friends by Nnamdi Okonkwo, came to Suwanee as part of the temporary exhibits but were so popular they were ultimately purchased by the city and are now permanent parts of the Suwanee Town Center.
Metaphysica, a large, red, steel sculpture by Phil Proctor was part of the 2019-2022 exhibit that is coming to an end.
Moving on to the second commercial portion of the Suwanee Town Center, you’ll find Flash Print. This print shop takes care of your printing or shipping needs. Next, is Cornerstone Academic, a tutoring service offering SAT/ACT test prep as well as subject-specific tutoring for students K-12. Tutoring is offered both in-person and via live online sessions.
On the corner, you’ll see Pooch N Paws. This cat and dog focused shop offers a full range of grooming services as well as all the supplies and equipment needed to care for your furry friend.
On the opposite corner from Pooch N Paws is Mellow Mushroom. You’ve probably been to a Mellow Mushroom before, but in case you haven’t, you’ll want to head here if you are craving pizza served in a fun, quirky environment. Their pizza crust gets rave reviews!
Between those two anchors, on this block you’ll find Big Peach Running Co., a shop focused on meeting the footwear needs of Suwanee’s runners, walkers, and cyclists. Next, is Dress Up, a women’s boutique focuses on bringing you on-trend clothing at affordable prices.
Next, you can satisfy your sweet tooth with a frozen yogurt from Yogli Mogli or if you are looking for a quick meal, grab a smoothie from Planet Smoothie. Or, visit Golden Seven, a locally owned restaurant serving Chinese and Thai cuisine.
Last up on this block is Café Amico. Grab a latte and pastry and take it to go or sit and enjoy the coffee shop vibe while you work. Or, meet a friend and grab a quick lunch!
Finally, in the last commercial block at the Suwanee Town Center, you’ll find 9 Round, a kickboxing gym offering kickboxing workouts to Suwanee residents. Sounds fun but you’re a total beginner? No worries! The gym welcomes beginners and will teach you everything you need to know.
Vitaly Med Spa is next door, catering to the skincare and cosmetic needs of Suwanee residents.
Moving on, its time to talk about one of the coolest parts of the Suwanee Town Center: the Town Center Park. This 10-acre park is affectionally called “Suwanee’s Front Yard” by the city. There is plenty of green space for fun and relaxation, and paved paths popular with runners and walkers.
The amphitheater is a great venue for the outdoor concerts and other live entertainment during city-hosted events. If you have kids, you won’t want to miss the Big Splash Interactive Fountain. It’s a great way to stay cool and beat the heat.
Part of the Town Center Park is Remembrance Plaza, a 9/11 memorial home to a steel remnant from the World Trade Center and a sculpture showcasing the lower Manhattan skyline.
True to its reputation as Suwanee’s Front Yard, the park hosts events like Food Truck Friday, the Suwanee Half Marathon, the American Craft Beer Festival, the Suwanee Arts Festival, the 4th of July celebration, and Movies Under the Stars.
This wide-open space is the perfect place to bring the community together. If you haven’t checked out the Suwanee Town Center yet, you’re missing out.
