Highest Paying Jobs in Atlanta

Hi! I’m Tim Trevathan, your favorite Atlanta Realtor. We all need to make money right? In today’s video I am going to tell you the 10 highest paying jobs in Atlanta. Stick around to the end to see all 10!

We’re all feeling the pinch of inflation right now, but thankfully here in Atlanta the job market has remained pretty healthy. For years, people from across the country have moved to Atlanta either to start a new job they already have lined up or in search for a new job.

Many of my clients have moved here from elsewhere in the country. I love helping people just like you find their new home in a new city. My contact info is on the screen and please don’t hesitate to send me a text, an email, or give me a call if you’d like to talk about moving to Atlanta and finding a great new home.

I’m going to tell you the 10 highest paying jobs in Atlanta, but to be honest, you have to be a doctor to land 8 of the 10 most lucrative jobs in Atlanta.

So, I’m lumping doctors into one category and expanding the list to include doctors plus the nine highest paying jobs that don’t require you to go to medical school.

Ready? Let’s go!

The 10th highest paying job in Atlanta: Post secondary law teacher. Obviously this is a job that only a few people are qualified for, which is probably why it is so high on the list. There are only about 140 of these positions in Atlanta and the average salary is about $150,000. Those numbers are from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as are all of the numbers in this video.

I have no idea how often these positions become available or how easy or difficult they are to get, but if you have the qualifications to be a post secondary law professor, then you could find a great paying job here in Atlanta.

The 9th highest paying job in Atlanta:  Air traffic controllers. This one surprised me! Perhaps it shouldn’t have. Atlanta is home to the world’s busiest airport afterall. There are about 770 air traffic controllers in Atlanta making an average of $153,000 a year.

Air traffic controllers are federal employees and per the FAA’s website, positions for brand new air traffic controllers are typically announced in the summer and positions for controllers with experience are often announced in the spring and fall.

I will say that per Indeed.com, the average national salary is only $57,000. The average Atlanta salary being much higher at $153,000 could be a case of some controllers here having much higher salaries than the typical, thus showing an average that is much higher than you could expect to make if you are new to the field.

The 8th highest paying job in Atlanta is: Financial Managers. According to the BLS, there are about 15,000 of these jobs in Atlanta, both filled and open. Financial managers make an average of $154,000. Atlanta isn’t New York and isn’t home to Wall Street, but it is one of the main finance hubs of the south.

The 7th highest paying job in Atlanta: Athletes and Sports Competitors. So yeah. You either are a professional athlete or you aren’t. If you are, you probably don’t have a whole lot of say in which city you are moving to next.  We do have a lot of sports teams here, and a lot of professional athletes. The BLS says the average annual salary is $161,000, though obviously many athletes make far more than this.

The 6th highest paying job in Atlanta: Computer and Information Systems Manager. 10,000 and $162,000. There are around 11,000 of these positions and the average salary is about $160,000. There are hundreds of companies in Atlanta, and with all those companies there is a big need for people to manage the computer and information side of things.

The 5th highest paying job in Atlanta: General Dentist. There are about 1,400 dentists in Atlanta and they make an average of almost $170,000 a year. If you are a dentist, you may be considering moving her and opening your own practice. Or, you may be buying an existing practice or joining a group as a partner. The good news is that Atlanta’s population is steadily growing, which means more people needing their teeth cleaned and cared for!

The 4th highest paying job in Atlanta: Nurse Anesthetist. This is another specialty field. There are around 220 nurse anesthetists in Atlanta, and they make an average of $170,000. They provide anesthesia for surgery while keeping patients safe, and it is understandable why it is one of the most high paying jobs in Atlanta!

The 3rd highest paying job in Atlanta: Airline Pilots, Co-Pilots, and Flight Engineers. Nationwide, there are about 81,000 of these jobs (filled and open), but the BLS did not provide job numbers for the Atlanta Metro Statistical area. The average salary here though is about $200,000 a year.

Atlanta is Delta Airline’s main hub, so I would imagine that there are a good number of these jobs in Atlanta, though again I don’t know how many are open or how easy it is to snag one when there are openings.

The 2nd highest paying job in Atlanta: Actuary. There are less than 900 actuaries in Atlanta. They make an average of $245,000 which lands them as the second highest paying job in Atlanta. If you are in the phase of life where you are deciding what you want to do, and you want a high paying job, consider becoming an actuary.

The highest paying job in Atlanta: Doctor. Technically, various sorts of doctors rank in various positions from 1st down to  31st. Doctors have 8 of the top 10 spots on the highest paying job list, including the top 6 spots on the list.

Obstetricians and gynecologists are at the top of the list and make an average of about $330,000. Optometrists, down in 31th place, make an average of $130,000.

The physician types that round out the top 10: neurologists, radiologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, specialists, general ophthalmologists, and family medicine doctors. Pediatricians barely missed being in the top 10 highest paying jobs, coming in at Number 11.

We have several large hospital systems here in Atlanta plus probably hundreds of medical practices. Like I said earlier about dentists, Atlanta’s continued population growth creates a continued need for doctors.

Hopefully this was helpful to you! If you are planning a move to Atlanta, or are even just thinking about it, I’d love to hear from you and answer your questions about the Atlanta real estate market and what it would look like to find a great home for your family.
