Let’s move right along and get down to the top five reasons why families are so interested in Atlanta.
When I’m asked what families are thinking about most for the future of their children, it has to be education, and both the Fulton County and Gwinnett County school systems are no slouch in that department. Nationally ranked public high schools dot the map from Northview High School and Chattahoochee High School in Johns Creek, Milton High School and Alpharetta High School in no other than Alpharetta. The Gwinnett County Public School system has the most diverse students in all of Georgia, and Forsyth County Public Schools is ranked “A” across the board for academics, teachers, clubs and activities, diversity, college prep, and administration by Niche.com. Whether it’s excellent average scores for standardized tests, extracurricular resources, specializations like the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology, or close proximity to some of the best schools in the country like Georgia Institute of Technology or University of Georgia, if you’re looking for the best education for your child’s future, you can find it here in the suburbs of Metro Atlanta.
There are so many more school options to list, from primary education to post-collegiate, and if there’s anything you think is worth a shout-out, leave a comment down below.
Moving on to number two, we have safety. Of course, parents across the country are looking for the safest, most secure neighborhoods to build families and settle down. The roots you’re looking to plant may be here in the suburbs. With an amazing reputation for consistently being one of the safest towns in the entire United States, Johns Creek has an eye-poppingly low 4.9 out of 1000 residents crime rate according to NeighborhoodScout.com, ranking it in the top 25 safest places to live. The communities here will have neighborhood watch programs that work hand in hand with local police, all of which have been experiencing higher satisfaction and better reputations than most metro areas.
Number three, family-friendly communities. No matter where you turn, you’ll find safe, fun, and bustling places where one can do some shopping, grab a bite to eat, and spend some time with friends and family. The various city halls across Duluth, Lawrenceville, and Suwanee all offer seasonal events and celebrations that bring local artists, foodies, and families together for weekends of fun and festivity. Let’s not forget the farmer’s markets and all of the locally sourced produce you could want available year-round. Experience Avalon, a luxurious, walkable mixed-use space in the heart of Alpharetta that hosts restaurants, Regal Cinemas, and some of the best shopping experiences around. Your kids won’t want to miss the outdoor ice skating rink open in the winter. Sugarloaf Mills is our premiere indoor mall in Lawrenceville, home to Medieval Times, Dave & Busters, AMC, and more. Up north there’s Mall of Georgia, the shopping center of Buford, and the largest shopping mall in all of Georgia.
Number four, central, easy access to exploring all of nature you could want. If indoor experiences aren’t your thing, we have something just for you. Georgia is home to some of the most beautiful national and state parks in the Southeast, whether you’re looking to hike, camp, swim, or explore, and your home in the suburbs could be just a quick drive away.
Chattahoochee National Forest, spanning across North Georgia, offers hiking trails, waterfalls, and plenty of opportunities for overnight camping and river fishing on the famous Chattahoochee river. You may want to visit Amicalola Falls State Park is home to the tallest waterfall in Georgia, not to mention it’s a real hiker’s paradise with well-maintained paths ranging from easy walks in the forest to challenging mountain trails.
Gwinnett County is also home to the must-see Stone Mountain Park, famous for its massive granite dome, rich with history, a popular walk up the mountain, and attractions for all ages. They have annual pass memberships so you can take your little ones to see the greatest Fourth of July light show in the South.
And if you’re just interested in checking out some of the many recreational parks, there are hundreds of them all throughout our area. My favorite is a new one they just opened to the public in Lawrenceville called Tribble Mill Park, 700 acres of forest, lakes, and paved trails for a walk with your dog, a picnic with the family, or time alone becoming one with nature, just minutes from your next home.
Rounding it out with number five, these areas are absolutely rich with vibrant multicultural experiences. Duluth is home to a very diverse crowd, and if you love exploring new and familiar food, cultures, and goodies, you’ll find no better place. We have trendy, new shops that children, teenagers, and even adults are always checking out like the Asian lifestyle stores Teso, Ebisu, and Kinokuniya, all opened within the past few years. Suwanee is seeing a renaissance as Asian and Hispanic populations are moving in, making it one of the most diverse cities in the area, and you’ll see it reflected in the many languages you’ll see on billboards and signs all around town.
And we can’t forget the food. Whether you’re looking for Caribbean, Chinese, West African, Thai, Korean, Eastern European, or a good ole fashioned Southern BBQ, you’ll find it all. With so many international communities coming to form a true American melting pot, you can travel the world from the comfort of a thirty minute drive in any direction. You want sushi burritos, Chick-fil-a, and Haitian rice for dinner? You can find it all on just one street! There’s so many places opening up that you would need a team to keep track of them all!
