10 Things to do in Suwanee, Georgia

Suwanee, Georgia is a popular place to live and with good reason. This Metro Atlanta suburb is located about 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta and nestled between Duluth and Sugar Hill in Gwinnett County. Parks is where Suwanee really shines. The city is served by 3 Gwinnett County Parks and 5 city of Suwanee parks. You should visit them all and find your favorites, but we’ll look at some highlights in just a minute.

If the outdoors isn’t your thing, there’s also live Bluegrass music, shows at the Suwanee Performing Arts Center, and concerts on the lawn at the Suwanee Town Center to enjoy in Suwanee.

Let’s take a look at 10 things to do in Suwanee, Georgia. Some of these are super popular and others are hidden gems.

1. Everett’s Music Barn. This tops my list because it is so unique. Lots of Atlanta suburbs have great parks, a lot of suburbs have performing arts centers, and a lot of suburbs have high end shopping and dining. What do the suburbs surrounding Suwanee not have that Suwanee does have? Live bluegrass music on a regular basis.

Everett’s Music Barn is family owned and operated and has been bringing blue grass music to Suwanee for almost 60 years. Open on Saturday nights, The Everett Family Band and visiting blue grass bands play and bring the joy of blue grass to the audience. The main house also hosts jam sessions and players of all abilities are welcome.

Tickets are not required and admission is free but donations are very much appreciated and allow the music barn to continue its rich tradition of bringing blue grass music to Suwanee.

2. Adrenaline Climbing. Suwanee is also home to another experience you won’t find just anywhere. Family owned and operated, team at Adrenaline Climbing welcomes climbers of all experience levels and as young as four years old. Sign up for a class, purchase a monthly membership, or drop in and grab a day pass for some spontaneous climbing fun. Adrenaline Climbing also hosts group events (how awesome would a rock climbing birthday party or team building event be?!) and even better, they offer guided OUTDOOR rock climbing trips to help you take the leap from indoor climbing to real world outdoor climbing. If you love climbing you’ll want to pay a visit to Adrenaline Climbing and if you’ve never tried but are up for an adventure, you’ll want to pay a visit to Adrenaline Climbing.

3. Monkey Wrench Brewing. If you love a good brewery, you’ll want to pay a visit to Monkey Wrench Brewing. Located in a former industrial building, there is plenty of space to spread out at this family-friendly and dog-friendly brewery. On weekends, you can often enjoy live music and a food truck. If the weather is nice, check out the beer garden!

4. Suwanee Town Center. Sometimes called “Suwanee’s Front Yard”, the Town Center offers Suwanee residents a variety of options. You can browse the shops or enjoy a nice meal.  On an upcoming video, we’ll walk around the Town Center and checkout all the retail options in detail.

Right now, I want to focus on the wonderful green space that is part of the Suwanee Town Center. The 10-acre Suwanee Town Center Park is perfect for a picnic, an impromptu game of catch, or getting in your daily run on the 1-mile trail or, for a longer run, there is an entry point to the Suwanee Creek Greenway.

The 1,000 person outdoor amphitheater is the perfect place to enjoy a summer concert. For a full list of upcoming events, check out the city of Suwanee’s website!

Kids will love the Big Splash Interactive Fountain. This is no ordinary splash pad. There are 43 jets shooting out up to 1,400 gallons of water per minute! Such a fun way to keep your kids cool and active during those hot, humid Suwanee summer days.

5. Suwanee Creek Park. If you have watched my video on the pros and cons of living in Suwanee, Georgia, you already know that the park system is a huge pro of living in Suwanee. The Suwanee Town Center Park we just talked about is only one of the awesome parks in Suwanee. I don’t have time to talk about all of them today, but have to include two more on the list of 10 things to do in Suwanee.

Suwanee Creek Park makes the list because of two fairly unique offerings for the area: an 18-hole disc golf course and an orienteering course. The disc-golf course was designed by Professional Disc Golf Association Hall of Fame member. The course is mostly wooded and shaded, which is great for helping disc golfers stay cool during the warm months. Don’t forget your bug spray though since you’ll be in the woods!

The orienteering course is a 1-mile course covering 19 way points and was constructed as an Eagle Scout project. I don’t know of anything else like this in the area! The course provides a great place for budding orienteers to learn how to read a compass and follow directions.

6. White Street Park. Another must-visit park in Suwanee is White Street Park. This unique park is the first public orchard in the Southeast. In addition to the orchard, this 1-acre orchard has a natural play features throughout the park for children, a trail, and open green spaces for relaxation. The Harvest Farm Community Garden is also located at White Street Park, and plots are available for rent on a first come – first serve basis.

7. Main Event Suwanee. If you are looking for good old fashioned (or the latest and greatest) fun, Main Event is where you’ll want to be. In fact, it will probably take you a few visits to have enough time to enjoy everything Main Event has to offer.

There is a 20-foot indoor ropes course – how cool is that?! Participants do have to be at least 48” tall, so this activity is not for very young children, but it is crazy fun for older kids!

Main Even Suwanee also offers indoor laser tag, a state-of-the-art bowling alley, billiards, and a game hall with everything from nostalgic classics to the latest and greatest in virtual reality.

If you get hungry while at Main Event Suwanee, that’s not a problem! Head over to the full service restaurant for a meal break. Or, enjoy lane-side snacks while bowling or the full bar while playing a round of billiards. Plenty of TVs at the bar will keep you caught up on live sporting events.

Main Event also hosts birthday parties, team building events, holiday parties, and more! I think it is almost impossible to visit Main Event Suwanee and not find at least one activity or game you want to try.

8. Living Well Farmers Market. Are you a fruit or veggie lover? Do you love shopping local? If you answered yes, then you need to pay a visit to the Living Well Farmers Market. This locally owned market has a passion for bringing locally grown, whole foods to Suwanee residents. Owner/Market Manager Nora Lea wants customers to know where, when, and how their food is grown. For items that can’t be purchased locally, like seafood, the market purchases from sustainable sources.

You can visit the storefront 6 days a week (check their hours as they vary) and choose from a variety of produce, baked goods, home goods, and more. If you love what you find, you can join the co-op or Fresh Harvest and pick up your order weekly or better yet, have it delivered right to your door if you live within 20 miles of the store.

9. Suwanee Creek Greenway. This 4-mile long paved trail is perfect for walking, running, or cycling. The greenway’s official beginning is at Suwanee Creek Park, but there are multiple access points along the length of the greenway. The trail meanders through woodlands and marshy wetlands and though it is very popular, somehow rarely feels crowded.

For a longer run or walk, take the Suwanee Creek Greenway into George Pierce Park and continue your journey on the 2.5 mile long Ivey Creek Greenway.

10. Artistic Adventures. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make your own hand thrown pottery, you are in luck! Head over to Artistic Adventures and sign up for a 6-week class and try something new! You can also stop by the studio to visit the art gallery and buy a the perfect piece for your home, hand-crafted by a local artist.  The studio also offers mixed media workshops, birthday parties, and other private events.

Summary: I hope there were at least a few things on this list of 10 things to do in Suwanee that caught your interest! Suwanee is home to wonderful parks and unique activities such as live bluegrass music, pottery classes, and rock climbing. Now go get out there and have some fun!
